Working backwards from 8 November: the timeline, the one-offer rule, per-industry plays, and the WhatsApp engine that does the selling.

The 2026 dates and the one plan that works

Diwali 2026 is Sunday, 8 November — Dhanteras Friday 6 Nov, Bhai Dooj Tuesday 10 Nov. The businesses that win the season do five things: stock decided by mid-September, ONE clear offer (not five overlapping ones), WhatsApp status running daily from mid-October, the offer live as a coupon on their own store, and a last-48-hours push. Everything below is that plan, with per-industry specifics.

The timeline, working backwards from 8 November

WhenWhat
By 15 SepFestive stock ordered; hero products chosen; margin checked WITH festival discount (calculator — a 20% offer on a thin margin is a loss machine)
1–15 OctFestive photos shot; store's Diwali collection live; offer decided and created as a coupon (tap-to-apply on your site, same code everywhere)
15–31 OctTeasers: daily WhatsApp status, 3-4 Instagram posts/reels a week, broadcast #1 to past buyers ("Diwali collection is live")
1–6 Nov (peak)Offer running; broadcast #2; Dhanteras push on 6 Nov (jewellery/utensils/electronics: this IS your day); answer every enquiry same-hour
7–8 NovLast-48-hours reminder (one message, real deadline); gratitude greeting on Diwali morning — no selling in it
9–15 NovBhai Dooj angle (gifts for sisters/brothers); thank-you messages; restock what sold out — post-Diwali wedding season follows immediately

The offer: one, clear, and on your own store

  • One offer beats five. "20% off everything above ₹999" outperforms stacked schemes buyers must decode.
  • Make it a real coupon on your own site — buyers see it as a tap-to-apply chip at checkout, so the WhatsApp message and the checkout always agree. (On Manva: reply "coupon DIWALI20 20" to the assistant and it's live.)
  • Free delivery above a threshold often beats a discount on margin — test it with the calculator.
  • Deadlines must be true. "Ends Dhanteras midnight" — and it ends. Fake extensions train buyers to ignore you.

Per-industry plays

Sarees & ethnic wear

Your season runs to December (weddings follow Diwali). Lead with 2-3 hero pieces styled for Diwali evenings; reels of drapes outperform flat shots; "Diwali delivery guaranteed if ordered by 1 Nov" converts fence-sitters. Full playbook: selling sarees online.

Jewellery

Dhanteras (6 Nov) is your Super Bowl — gold/silver buying is the tradition itself. Book Dhanteras pre-orders from late October; gift-box packaging photos; price-band collections (under ₹999 / ₹2,999 / ₹9,999) match how gift buyers think. See the jewellery solution.

Food, sweets & bakery

Gift hampers are the product: 3 sizes, corporate bulk pricing on the page, order-by dates printed clearly (fresh goods need cutoffs). WhatsApp status of the kitchen in action sells more than any ad.

Salons & beauty

The two weeks BEFORE Diwali are your peak: "Diwali-ready" packages, pre-booked slots (online booking stops the phone chaos), card-party group offers.

Home & decor

People redecorate before Lakshmi Puja: torans, lights, cushions, rangolis peak 2-3 weeks early — front-load your push to mid-October.

The WhatsApp engine (where Indian Diwali sales actually happen)

  1. Status daily from 15 October — new stock, behind-the-scenes, offer reminders. Free, non-intrusive, seen by exactly the people who saved your number.
  2. Two broadcasts, not ten: collection-live (mid-Oct) and offer/deadline (early Nov). More is spam.
  3. Ready messages: greetings, offers and last-day pushes in Hinglish/Hindi/English — generate them free, or see the copy-paste library.
  4. Same-hour replies during the peak week — festival buyers are comparison-shopping in real time; the first good answer usually gets the order.

Running this manually is a part-time job. The Manva assistant generates the campaign from your actual products, schedules the posts, creates the coupon on a yes, and tells you each morning what sold.

Frequently asked questions

When is Diwali in 2026?

Sunday, 8 November 2026. The five-day festival runs 6–10 November: Dhanteras (6th), Choti Diwali (7th), Lakshmi Puja/main Diwali (8th), Govardhan Puja (9th), Bhai Dooj (10th).

When should a small business start Diwali marketing?

Stock decisions by mid-September, collection and offer live by mid-October, daily visibility from 15 October, peak push 1–6 November. Search interest and buying both peak in the 1–2 weeks before the festival — later starts miss the wave.

What's the best Diwali offer for a small business?

One clear, true offer: a percent-off coupon above a minimum order, or free delivery above a threshold. Run the numbers first — a 20% discount on a 25% margin plus COD returns is a loss; the margin calculator shows your safe ceiling.

Diwali or Dhanteras — which day sells more?

Depends on category: jewellery, utensils and electronics peak on Dhanteras (buying metal is the tradition); apparel, gifts, sweets and decor sell through the whole pre-week. Plan the push per category, not per calendar.
